40kVA Generator Hire

The size people reach for when a 20kVA is running out of room: a busy kitchen, a two-trade site shed, an event with catering behind it. Same drop-and-go footprint, real headroom for motors.

What it runs

The step up from a 20

40kVA is where a small job stops being tight. Enough margin for compressors and refrigeration, without moving up to a machine that needs a spotter to place.

Most people asking about a 40kVA have already worked out that a 20 will not quite do it. A second cool room, a compressor, a fryer and a coffee machine on the same board. A site shed that has grown a workshop. A stallholder run that started as four marquees and became nine.

Our small-set hire fleet is built around 20kVA, 35kVA and 60kVA machines, so a 40kVA requirement goes out on whichever of those carries it properly, which is usually the 60. We will tell you which machine is coming before it leaves the yard, rather than quoting a number and sending something else.

  • Headroom for motors Compressors, cool rooms and pumps that a 20kVA would be starting right on its limit.
  • Single and three-phase A domestic board and a site distribution board are equally straightforward.
  • Still drop-and-go Small enough for a car park, a laneway or a nature strip, on a tilt tray or a trailer.

Where a 40kVA earns its keep

Busy shops and commercial kitchens, two-trade site sheds, event catering and back-of-house, and temporary supply while a switchboard is replaced.

It never goes out alone

A set on its own is rarely the whole job. The gear that gets it connected and keeps it running is held in our Kilsyth yard.

  • Delivery tilt trays
  • Crane trucks
  • Industrial fuel cells
  • Temporary switchboards
  • Cable ramps and covers

What happens next

From your call to power on

No triage queue and no handballing. The person who picks up is the person organising your set.

  1. You call, we answer

A real person on the phone any hour of any day, not an after-hours message bank. Tell us the site and what has gone down.

  2. We size it on the call

Our electricians and generator specialists work out what will carry the load now, and what the connection needs to look like.

  3. Dispatch and connect

The set goes out on our own float fleet, and our A-grade electricians make the connection and commission it on site.

  4. We stay accountable

Fuel management, monitoring and on-call technicians until your operation is back on, stable, and no longer needs us.

40kVA questions

Frequently asked

What will a 40kVA generator run?

A busy retail tenancy or commercial kitchen with several refrigeration units, a site shed with a compressor and power tools running together, or a mid-sized event with catering and lighting. It is the size that gives you margin on start-up rather than sitting right on the limit, which is where most undersized hires come unstuck.

Do you hold a 40kVA set specifically?

Our small-set hire fleet is built around 20kVA, 35kVA and 60kVA machines, so a 40kVA job goes out on the closest machine that carries it properly, usually the 60kVA. We will tell you which unit is coming when we quote, because the machine on site matters more than the number on the enquiry.

Should I take a 40kVA or a 60kVA?

If the load is steady and well understood, the smaller machine is cheaper to run and easier to place. If there are motors starting on it, or the job is likely to grow, the 60kVA is the safer call and often the one we would send anyway. Give us the equipment list and we will make the call with you rather than for you.

How much does it cost to hire a 40kVA generator?

Term, site access and what goes out alongside the set all move the number: cabling, a distribution board, fuel and delivery are all part of the job. We quote the whole thing rather than a day rate with extras appearing later.

Can you deliver and connect it?

Yes. It goes out on our own tilt tray or trailer, and our A-grade electricians make the connection and commission it on site. You are not left to find a sparky once the machine is in the driveway.

How long can I keep it?

From a single day through to a multi-year contract. Short hires regularly extend when a repair or an upgrade runs long, and that is not a problem: tell us the dates you know about and we will build the term around them.
